Pre-university Programmes Overview: Form Six, Matriculation, A-level, AUSMAT, SAM, ICPU, IB, Foundation

Foundation

RM 3,750 – RM 9.000 (private colleges and universities) and RM10,000 – RM 19,500 (foreign university with a local campus).

  5. Anonymous,
If you are sure that you are going for Bio-tech, i would suggest you A-level or STPM. depends whether you want to go for oversea or local. If you can afford oversea university, you should take A-level over STPM.If you are still not sure whether you want to go local or oversea, you should give STPM a try. Foundation in science in UNISEL will limit your choices of university after you finish the foundation program. Because not many university recognise UNISEL foundation in science program because different university offers different syllabus in their foundation program so think twice about it.

    Anonymous,
    you can google it.

    Elle,
I dont know about the exact cost but why don't you just go there and visit them? I think it's around RM16k for the whole course.

  8. Cheers bro, I'm currently studying TESL in Auckland University under Ministry of Education's scholarship, which I applied after SPM (2004). I did not go through A-level like the MARA's folks did. Just two years of foundation in local teachers college and another four in overseas. Really giffy considering that I'm studying in the same year (3rd yeard) with MARA TESL students who are a year older than most of my cohorts. I would suggest that more students applies for MoE TESL scholarship, especially guys, because we need more male teacher. There's another benefit too that we are bounded by contract to serve the ministry in teaching position after we finished our studies.

  9. Anonymous,
Based on your daughter's situation, I would suggest those include assignments marks courses for her instead of 100% academically course because it would be hard for her to rush the syllabus within 1.5 years.

I'm a 2006 SPM graduate, currently studying a 3 years Industrial Design course in a private college.
For a degree program, would it be possible to enroll into a local University.
Will they recognize my diploma,or do i have to go through another 3 years program under the local University to obtain a Degree.

    Thank you.

  16. im told that for medicine its better to do foundation since its faster. there are some foundations that cater specifically to pre medical programmes but for those who are going to uk or aust a levels is better recognised there. for me its too expensive to do my degree there close to 1 mil im told! i might go for my masters or specialization

  36. "Foundation programs are developed by colleges and universities for students who wish to progress to a diploma or degree course at the same institutions." by Erlina --- This is true

Students/parents need not to worry choosing any institutions to do foundation. It is a matter of money, time, convenience, facility or education quality provided. Plese choose foundation program that will enable you to take relevant degree courses.

"... Foundation in science in UNISEL will limit your choices of university after you finish the foundation program. Because not many university recognise UNISEL foundation in science program because different university offers different syllabus in their foundation program so think twice about it." by Erlina --- This is not true!!!

Foundation in Science at UNISEL already got life-time accreditation from MQA in 2009. It has been already recognized even before that year too.

Due the fact that colleges and universities are trying to increase the number of students, most of them will accept foundation graduates from any other colleges/universities to do bachelor degree in relevant fields. Some of these colleges/universities also allow credit transfer or exemption eventhough this breaks the rule set up by MQA.

  38. Hi there,
Is there anybody interested to do foundation in science right after their SPM. Foundation in Science is not tough by the way. It is actually one year programme consisting 3 semesters. It doesnt cost much. The most interesting part is their assessment which is carried out end of each semester not after one or two years of study.Assessment basically depends only 40% on final examination. The other 60% is class assessment including presentation and practricals. Recognised and approved by MOHE and MQA. Can pursue medicine, pharmacy, dentistry or other applied sciences upon completion. I heard Nighitngale International College, Seremban(Nirwana Group of academies) is providing this course. Give a try. I am going to give my shot there

i personally think in ur case, u better check with the university that you want to enroll and check the requirements.. if possible, u can just repeat the 2 science subjects and make sure u score.. do foundation for a year and then try to obtain good grades... after that u can apply for degree using your foundation results.. i hope this will help.. :) good luck!

  49. Hi, so I'm entering Form 5 and I'm really puzzled with this after-SPM thing, there's much that I'm still bewildered about. First thing first, I've already set my path on going to the U.S. to pursue higher education, probably in finance or economics. So, what's next after SPM, do I enter pre-U? Which program is preferable (SAT or Cambridge A-Levels or anything else)? When is the right time to submit application and apply for for scholarship? During the admission process, do they prior SPM result or results in the program you take?
Need an answer urgently cause this thing is driving my mind crazy.....

  50. To O-level taker: This is only valid if u wish to join an overseas Uni/College. But you may want to take A-level after that because STPM and local Uni's do not actually recognize O-level.

Loan asker: Depend on the course and the college... PTPTN is the best choice but u must adhere to certain terms and conditions. It also depends on whether the course is approved by the government.

Accreditation asker: Only courses approved by the MQA are recognized. If you want to take an English program, be sure u have an STPM qualification because most local Uni's offer limited chances to diploma holders. They do not recognize foundation/certificates. STPM is equivalent to diploma.

Alicia: SAT has limited opportunities. Please make sure this certificate is recognized by the target college/Uni. Local Uni's do not recognize.

Chan: If u think u can do it (going to the US), please take A-level. Or contact the target Uni and ask if they offer a foundation program instead of A-level. Spare about a few months before application to take an English exam (TOFL). It costs about RM600 or more. It's more like MUET (STPM level) but assessed by the blonde. Types or exam and the results are certainly the 1st criteria for admission. Anyway, US is abit tough. The gov would look into your reasons why u must study in their country...U shd choose UK as an alternative then. UK requires IELTS (same like TOFL). Ask the exam provider to confirm before you choose the right English exam type.

Thanks. My contact is: [email protected]

  51. Dentist: SPM is not enough for dentistry. U must have at least an STPM/A-level qualification. During my time (year 2000), the minimum requirement is 3A's for Chinese because many have obtained 3-4 A's. For indians, 1A or 2A's are all right. In fact, many did not get dentistry even though they have better results than those being offered. Well, it depends on your luck...This phenomenon is applicable to STPM and USM.

  52. Hi I'm a 2011 SPM candidate. I'm planning to pursue pharmacy. In your opinion which university is the best place to do this course? As for now I'm thinking of doing the course in IMU. 58. May Peace be upon all of you,
I have a Secondary School Certificate equivalent to O'Level.

I have few choices of careers which are: Telecommunications Manager(network engineer too), Software Engineer, ICT, Network engineer.
I would like to know of a reasonable amounted foundation course well recognised by other Highly reputed universities like Nottingham, overseas uni too. Which will cover all the subjects above proceeding me to a Degree.

Kindly, list the best universities (including locals) for Right foundations, degrees, including other subjects regardless of my choice . (sorted by fairness of fees because some charges high despite having same quality, if they provide hands-on-experience skill too).
Please provide me the right University according to my career choices (preferably telecommunications engineer)

The generous co-operations would highly be appreciated.

May He grant success in all the worlds and make the Magnificent Heavens the final destination.
