Pre-university Programmes Overview: Form Six, Matriculation, A-level, AUSMAT, SAM, ICPU, IB, Foundation
Form Six (Tingkatan Enam) STPM
The Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination, the major exam at the end of form 6, was established in 1982. It replaces the Higher School Certificate (HSC)/ Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan (STP) examination which was conducted by the Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate (UCLES).
Offered by many government schools, Form 6 lasts for approximately a year and a half, culminating in the STPM examination at the end of the program. The most common entry requirement for a bachelor’s degree course at local public universities and University College in Malaysia, the STPM is also accepted by most foreign universities. On top of that, it is also the cheapest pre-university option.
The STPM is set and run by the Malaysian Examination Council, which is also administers the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
Entry Requirements
Generally, a pass in Bahasa Melayu in the SPM examination is required.
Science stream – a combination of points from mathematics and 2 science subjects which must not exceed 18 points.
Art stream – a combination of points from mathematics and any 2 subjects must not exceed 8 points.

Although examination fees were abolished, students still have to pay RM60 for their compulsory MUET test.

The list of subjects offered in Form 6 is as follows:

- Tamil language
- Arabic language

- Syariah (Islamic Law)
- Usuluddin (Islamic theology)

- Business studies
- Accounting
- Mathematics S (may not be taken with Mathematics T)
- Mathematics T (may not be taken with Mathematics S)
- Further Mathematics T (may only be taken with Mathematics T)
- Computing (only offered at certain schools)
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Sports science
- Visual Art
Besides general studies, which is a compulsory subject, students can take up a maximum if 3 other subjects. Generally, most schools offering Form 6 allow students to opt for either the science stream or the arts stream. Apart from that, the schools also offer a fixed combination of subjects. Research well and check which school offers the subject combination that you want.
In addition to the subjects that you will be taking, you will also be required to sit for the Malaysian University English Test (MUET). This exam is designed to test the English language ability of students who wish to gain admittance into public institutions of higher learning.
Assessment
Science subjects:
3 papers per subject, with the third paper being the practical exam.
Non-science subjects:
2 papers per subject.
Mathematics subjects:
Mathematics S and Mathematics T shares a similar first paper which focuses on pure mathematics. However, in the second paper, Mathematics S will emphasize business mathematics while Mathematics T adopts a more science-related and statistical approach.

I just want to add two things. A pass in BM is not enough, they need a credit i.e. C6 or above to enrol in Form 6. And for Art Stream, students with aggregate points of 9-12 will be considered if there is still vacancy in the state.

ReplyDeleteIn terms of international recognition, it does not differ much, compared to A-Levels, Canadian Internationa Pre-Uni, AUSMAT, South Australian Matriculation and other types of Pre-Uni in the world. It is widely recognised. Some even used their STPM to apply into NUS. I have seen one case that he used STPM to gain entry into ANU in Australia too. Hence, it is widely recognised throughout the globe. :)

If you are entering art stream, then I think it would be okay for you. If you are entering science stream, I don't think you will get a place in form 6.

ReplyDeleteThere, they would usually post a link under the Semakan title so that u can check whether u qualified for form 6. As long as the link haven't appeared, that means the list for form 6 haven't come out yet. Usually, the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri would send you a letter confirming that you have entered form 6.
If you are still unsure, I would recommend you to go to your school's counselor for more information. They are very helpful in getting infos. If the student is a former student of a particular school which offers the Form 6 program, that student is more likely than other students to be able to successfully enter form 6.
Some people say the semakan for form 6 has come out already. I am unsure but I'll be going to my former school (which offers form 6) soon to check out the truth.

ReplyDeleteYour friend might be applying for a change of school & not for Form 6 ? You cannot apply for it, the MOE does the selection. If your SPM 08 results is quite reasonable & you are sure of getting into Form 6, then you can first go ahead & apply for the change before you're shortlisted-check with your ex-school counsellor regarding this

ReplyDeleteIf your other subjects respectively @A2,B4 & C5 are Science subjects like Bio, Chem & Physics, then most likely you would be selected for the Science stream. On another matter, you cannot select your own stream-the MOE will place you according to your subjects results

Muet is complusory for every1 taking form6...
It will nt counted in ur cgpa... it will just be score band 1,2,3,4,5,6 which is the highest...
For changing school procedure, i'm nt kinda sure...
But i heard from my seniors, you go to ur origin sent school on the 11th and u tell them u wanna transfer school... They will help u with it...

ReplyDeleteThe original 2008 SPM cert. can be collected from your respective school starting next year i.e. 2010. Usually your ex-school will inform you OR you can always call them up to enquire. So for the time being, for all official use, pls use the current SPM result slip-it's a valid document until the cert. is printed out

The time for going to school have change from 7.20 am to 8.00 am (same as most private college)?
The school hour may be end on 4.00 or 4.30pm daily except friday?..as with this..the break will be longer (1 or 2 hours)..as same as private college foudation program..
Starting this year the STPM exam will be change to semester (6 month per semester)..and the exam result will include the assigment, project work and presentation mark? ..as private college oso..
The club which normally only allow form-6 student to involve also will changing the name...in the conjunction of rebanding the form-6?
The school sport will also separate pre-u(form6) student with form 1 to form 5 student?
(I am in Muar, Johor...these question became very popular in here...actually..all of this tell by the principle in school on the regisration day...however..when we ask the teacher..they say not sure yet..after that..no more people know more about this..and cause this became a very popular question...i would like to ask do any people know more about this? is all of this true?)

ReplyDeletehi , i have just receive my spm result for 2009 and i wanted to do f6 as im in arts stream. so , if i have got A scince subject and C for my add science.I really need your help that can i choose the science stream in f6 or you have another choice...Because my second options is to study for pharmacy.

I wanted to study in art stream form 6. My result isn't very satisfying . Its C+ = BM , A = English , C+ = Moral , E = Sejarah , B+ = EST and D = Math. Do I have a chance?

ReplyDeleteI hope i can get a few piece of advice and guidelines for trasnferring school in form 6.
First of all,what do I need to prepare earlier before the transfer? i.e(photostat spm result,IC,etc...?)
Secondly,if i do the transfer by my own,how fast i can get to the new school?

And,to get into form 6, you will need at least C in the main subjects like
ie-science stream, C for chem,phy,bio

when does form 6 start(2011)?? is it affected by the latest ipt intake which starts in sept?!
ReplyDeleteNo, pre-university programmes like form six is not affected. Form six 2011 will start around May / June as usual.

My result in school are below average. Usually get C or D in Science Subject. A for Modern Math but D or E for Add. Math sometimes......
If I get any fail subject in my SPM, Will I be disqualify to enter Form 6?

ReplyDeleteI heard that it's going to start on June. But recently i heard it's going to start in September. Then a friend of mine told me it's gonna start in July. Somehow I cannot find when it's going to start on the internet. Please help.

ReplyDeletedon't attempt to enrol into F6 with that result or otherwise you'll get a bad look in F6's exam.. it's not that simple at all. unless you put a big-hard work in your F6.. the actual date for register through MOE website that i heard is 2th of May. after that 9th of may you'll be invite to your nearest school which have the F6 function. so now just wait for it.

ReplyDeleteim a science student in form 5 but i did not do well in my spm and i got e for my chemistry ,d for my physic,b for additional mathematics,a for mathematics and c+ for my bio.i got to enter form 6 but i was given arts and im not too interested in arts but i can do well in science this time because before this i was very playful and was not serious in my studies now i just can't face this because i got 5a's for my pmr and this time im really determined to excel in my stpm!!!! im not confident about my future and the course the government will give if im in arts?wat if i did very well in arts and the government give me a lousy course which does'nt suit me?should i apply for science again or stay in arts??

You see I got 10 As in my SPM.(3A+,6A,1A-)And I wasn't offered JPA as I got very minimal A+s and I didn't get matric either.I am not financially well so right now I'm doing Form 6 and in the future I would like to do medicine. With good STPM results, can I get FULL scholarship(OVERSEAS) through JPA or do I have to go through a another private scholarships? If there are private scholarships, I would like to know some examples? Thank you for your cooperation :)

2. English proficiency must be at least Band 5 or 6 (MUET)?
Actually I wasn’t sure about my future career, but I love reading,investigating & doing some researches. I think, Law should be fine. What can your advice for those who’re not sure about taking law as their 1st choice? Thanks.
